The Demon’s Portal
One fine day, Jake woke up to the sound of the alarm clock blaring at him. Jake smashed the alarm clock button and got out of bed. He slowly went downstairs half asleep only to hear the school bus leaving for school. That quickly woke Jake up and he ran down the rest of the stairs, quickly changed his clothes and brushed his teeth. He got his bag, stuffed his laptop and his pencil case. He shoved a piece of toast covered in jam in his mouth before rushing to exit out the door with his bag open. But, by the time he had done that, the bus was long gone.
“Oh great.” he mumbled with a half eaten piece of toast in his mouth.
He tried running after the bus, but knew it would quickly disappoint him. He decided to run to school and take the shortcut through the park. Jake would usually never go through the shortcut that intersects with the park because he would get distracted by the rides and swings since there would be no one there because it was a school day. But, this time was different. He was already late for school and he had no time to have a nice swing or a wonderful slide. He was running as fast as he could, completely unaware of his surroundings. Unfortunately for him, Jake tripped on a rock covered in moss. Jake had no clue that he just uncovered the demon’s portal.
When Jake picked himself up, he realised everything had changed, literally! The clear sky turned into dark clouds pouring down rain and lightning. The freshly cut grass turned into dead patches of vegetation. The nicely painted playground turned into a rusty and old one. Jake had no clue what just happened. When suddenly, the atmosphere trembled with a terrible sound. Jake tried to figure out where the sound was coming from, but it came from all directions, which made Jake scared.
“Ah, so I see you have found my portal.”
Suddenly, a red creature appeared from down below.
“Are you from Australia? You look like you got sunburnt. Here, take this bottle of sunscreen.” said Jake naively and threw the bottle of sunscreen at him.
“What?! No! What makes you think that?! ” replied the creature, squashing the bottle and throwing it away.
His skin was red and orange. He was holding a devil-like trident and had horns for ears.
“Why is your skin red?” asked Jake.
“Shut up!” shouted the devil.
Now he was infuriated. He was struggling to comprehend Jake’s stupid questions. Flames were coming from all around him and his eyes turned red.
“Now, to leave this trap you have stumbled upon, you have to enter and finish the challenges within the demon’s portal!” cackled the devil.
“I am late for school and I just stumbled across this rock of yours and I just want to go to school.” moaned Jake.
“Oh, right then! Education is more important than life. Hurry on then.” replied the devil.
Just as Jake was leaving the devil came again and said. “Ha ha! You really thought I was going to let you be free?! Such a little dum dum boy you are!”
“Wonderful.” mumbled Jake.
“Ok, you will now enter the demon's portal.” replied the devil.
Suddenly, Jake was in a room with chainsaws everywhere. But, it was quite manageable to make it through. The chainsaws were a dark shade of blue, and the reason for that is a bulb came from through the ceiling and made everything the exact shade of blue as the chainsaws. Now, you could not make out if there was a chainsaw in front of you or if there wasn’t. To make things harder, the chainsaws were silent, so eyesight and hearing were not an option. The only thing you could use is touch. Luckily there was a metal pole right next to him which Jake only just noticed. That was because his attention was on the chainsaws. He picked it up.
“Good luck!” replied the demon very slyly.
He walked a couple of very tiny steps and held out the metal pole. The pole came in contact with a chainsaw, so Jake knew not to step there. He decided to check the other side. When he held the pole out, it did not come in contact with a chainsaw. So, he checked right next to the left side. Nothing there. So, now he knew that it was safe to walk there. He very slowly walked past the first chainsaw on the other side when he tripped on something. It was a rock, but an oddly sharp one. He fell and there was a chainsaw right in front of him, barely millimetres from his head. He was lucky that it only cut a bit of his hair. He got up very slowly to not cut himself or more of his hair. He saw the rock on the floor and picked it up. Then, he got an idea. He could vividly remember the location of the bulb and threw the rock blindly at it. The rock hit it, and the bulb shattered. Soon after, the chainsaws were visible because there was no ultraviolet light that was making it impossible.
So, now that he had already shattered the bulb and didn’t need to constantly fear for his life, he took a deep breath and started carefully moving closer and closer to the exit. Turns out, it wasn’t as hard as Jake thought. It was just the bulb. After being super, super, super careful for an eternity, he had finally reached the exit. It was just a door made out of dark oak wood with a gilded doorknob. He opened it and it got him right out of the room and into the real world again. Just as Jake was enjoying himself, the demon started speaking again.
“So, I see you have beaten my challenge. But, did you think it was the only challenge?”
Jake got scared. They were taken to a battle arena in which Jake was given old, rusty armour and a sword (that was also rusty) as well as an old, handed down bow. On the other hand, the demon got a nice polished titanium armour and a bow that looked like it had been polished 1001 times before it was given to the devil on a velvet pillow. The sword was also titanium. Then, a bell rang. Ding Ding Ding!
The doors to exit the stadium closed and Jake was left with one option. Do or die. Both of them started to fight. The demon swung his titanium sword and Jake dodged. Then, Jake pulled the string of his bow and fired an arrow. It hit the demon, but it hit him on the leg. Next, The demon just created a bomb out of thin air and threw it at Jake. Jake was frozen in fear and the grenade was slowly about to explode. It was almost as if it was waiting to just blast right up in his face. Then, Jake woke up in a cold sweat. Or really, many cold sweats. He looked around his bedroom and saw that everything was normal… but it wasn’t. Something was lurking around his bedroom, hidden like a shadow. Spying on Jake, waiting for his next move.
